Two towers short of the summit, the last gondola of the day jerks to a stop, and Ava Doran is left hanging sixty feet above the trees with a stranger. Oren Keller guides ice climbers for a living, and a dead cable doesn't rattle him. He has coffee, a protein bar and a confession: he was done for the day and got on because of her. It is twelve degrees and falling, rescue could be hours, and Ava is from Houston. Body heat, Oren tells her, is just physics. She intends to test it.
